Last week was a busy and successful week for Colston’s athletics teams, particularly for some Year 7 pupils who have been to 3 events in 7 days.
Saturday 12th June – Avon County Trials
A small group of athletes represented Bristol at the Avon Championships with the following pupils being selected to represent Avon.
Freddie Lloyd – MB 100M
Harrison Longega - MB High Jump
Kean Gannaway Roberts - MB Shot
Tuesday 15th June – South West Track & Field team Final
With all teams winning the Bristol area championships Colston’s had athletes in every event at the South West finals at Exeter. Unfortunately the Year 9 & 10 teams were weakened due to work experience and found it difficult to compete at such a high level. There were some good individual performances though, particularly by Ben Charlton-Hibbert who easily won the Boys 80m Hurdles.
The junior teams managed to do much better with the girls finishing 2nd and the boys winning the competition.

Friday 18th June – South West Prep Schools
After these successes the Year 7 & 8 travelled to Millfield for the South West Prep Schools trials with high hopes and they were not disappointed. Some excellent individual performances were achieved and several pupils will now go on to represent the South West at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.
Athlete of the day was Kean Gannaway-Roberts who smashed the Year 7record for the shot. His put of 11.29m eclipsed the previous record of 10.31m that had stood since 1998. This was closely followed by a magnificent Triple Jump of 10.90m by Max Nethercott.
Athlete of the week, however, must go to Freddie Lloyd who won the County 100m, was in the team that won the South West final at Exeter and also gained selection for the South West Prep Schools team for the National Championships.
