Success for Colston's cadets

Two of Colston's cadets have recently achieved success. Upper Sixth former Gemma Rowland was appointed as HM Lord Lieutenant's cadet and Lower Sixth former Tom Falconer Hall has been successful in gaining an Army Scholarship (to study Medicine) at the Army Scholarship Board in Westbury. Tom is at present a corporal in the RAF Section of Colston's CCF where he has been a member since joining in year 9.

The following is Gemma's citation:

GENERAL PEN PICTURE (Including any community service outside of cadets and future career aspirations): Gemma has been in Colston’s CCF for the past 5 years. She currently holds the rank of C/Sgt but will be appointed Cadet Under Officer within the CCF during this years training period. Gemma recently attended the Army Scholarship Board at Westbury and was successful in gaining a Scholarship where she hopes to pursue a career in either the Royal Artillery or Royal Engineers. She is a very strong and loyal member of the CCF and an excellent Instructor. She has attended all CCF Central Camps during her time in the CCF except this year where she was a member of four Senior Cadets who spent 3 weeks in Romania with the Avon Outward Bound. She was appointed Senior Prefect in the School this year, and represents the school in all forms of sport. She is presently studying for her A Levels and hopes to study at either Exeter/Loughborough University. Gemma spent 5 years in the Sea Cadets, TS Endeavour as well as her time in the CCF. Recently passing her driving test Gemma is very popular with all her fellow students and is highly respected by all the staff at Colston’s.
Gemma is an excellent ambassador to the school and CCF, and I have no hesitation in recommending her for the appointment of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet to represent Colston’s CCF for the period 2006-07.

TRAINING ACHIEVEMENTS (including D of E involvement): Gemma has gained all her Leadership and Method of Instruction Courses during her time in the CCF, has been a member of the 35/55 mile Ten Tors Team and spent a week Offshore Sailing with the Army.

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS:
Gemma is a tremendous sportswoman, excelling in all she enters. She has represented the school/county in the following:
Girls Rugby 7s, winners of the John Cleveland and Berkhamstead Tournaments, the National Schools Tournament at Rosslyn Park 2006, Netball 1st Team and Bristol Schools, Hockey 1st Team and Bristol Schools, Cross Country and Football Team Captain for Somerset County and South West.  (Major T Scarll)
