In Design & Technology year 9 students have been learning about bridge structures. This links closely with the work they have been doing with Mr Harper (physics) about forces.
Students were split into teams of four and given the limited resources of paper, scissors, tape, hole-punch, nuts, bolts and washers. From this students had to apply their learning into constructing a framework that could span from one workbench to another. The structures were tested using weights from the Science Department and marks were also awarded for teamwork and creativity.
Given the limited time and resources students produced some impressive outcomes, one structure remaining intact even with all twelve weights hanging from its centre!
