This weekend saw the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh candidates brave the poor weather, which had lead to the postponement of the Sailing expedition, to complete their Bronze practice expedition.
Three groups set out from Burrington Combe to test their navigation skills and walking stamina on the Mendips. Squally showers on the Saturday morning added an extra dimension to the training but all the pupils displayed a great deal of determination to make the best of the conditions. Fortunately the rain held off in the evening to allow tents to be put up in the dry and a variety of interesting concoctions to be cooked.
An early start on Sunday morning saw all three groups back on the Mendips on their second day. The incentive of a minibus rid home seemed to act as a spur, and aching limbs managed to propel everybody around the final few miles in quick time.
After a well earned rest and a host of exams all the groups will reconvene for their assessed expedition in June.
