Last week (Nov 21st-25th) pupils in Dolphin House took part in the second ever ‘Dolphin Week’. Following a successful week of fundraising last year pupils handed over a cheque for over £1300 to the Dolphin Society, a charity which supports local elderly and disabled people in living independently. This year, therefore, pupils were keen to match their achievements.

The week saw pupils in all year groups take responsibility for organising and running their own mini charity event. This resulted in various weird and wonderful activities going on every day; from selling drinks and sweets to rugby and netball accuracy games. The sixth form organised a rather colourful netball match in which the staff were edged out in a gripping finale. Year 10 entertained in their hockey challenge, by allowing keen participants to try and score past Mr Banning, an impressive barrier in goal. Even the headmaster, Mr Fraser, was eager to give it a go with some success.

On top of this pupils also took part in Dolphin’s major events of the week.
The House concert saw pupils from all abilities performing in front of an audience of parents and pupils. It was a challenge embraced with some gusto by the lower sixth who gave an interesting group vocal to open up proceedings. They were joined by a combined choir (complete with whistlers) of year 7 and 9 pupils who proved they had the ‘moves like Jagger’ by being asked to perform an encore by the headmaster himself. Other notable performers were the Foremans, who have graced these concerts with their flute playing for a number of years, Hanna Gardner who both sang beautifully and backed this up with her guitar playing for Harriet Young’s rendition of an Ed Sheeran song, and Chris Casbon on the violin. Many excelled on the night but Dan Roberts stole the show with a blockbuster performance of the James Bond Theme on his guitar which brought the house down.

The grand finale of the week was the so called ‘March of the Penguins’. This saw pupils dressed up as all manner of penguin completing a themed assault course complete with slide. Pupils wholeheartedly embraced the theme and put on a magnificent display of polar fashion enjoyed by the watching families and friends. On completion the rather tired and muddy finishers were treated to a quick drink and a snack (chocolate not fish). Sponsorship from this event and the money raised from the whole weeks activities will go once again to the Dolphin Society.

I would wish to thank all pupils for their efforts throughout the week. They were a credit to their house and to their school.
