Three Colston’s School players Ryan Prosser (17), Luke Eves (16) and Gareth Griffiths (17) have been called up to the England Under 18 rugby squad.

The squad get together early in February for their first training session, and they have a schedule that takes them through to the Under 18 international against France in Toulouse.

Prosser, a try-scoring hooker, is captaining Colston’s to another highly successful season with 11 wins out of 12 so far. He has already gained junior Welsh honours, but has decided his allegiance lies with England.

Eves and Griffiths form the centre partnership of the current Colston’s 1st XV.

Aged 16 and a member of the Lower Sixth, Eves is the junior partner. But he gets all the support and inspiration he needs from his father Derek. During the early 90s the formidable back row at Bristol revolved around Derek, and he is still very much part of the game with Hull Ionians in National League Three North.

England may have gained Prosser, but they lost recent Colston’s pupil Gareth Delve, now Bath’s No 8. Delve opted to cross in the other direction and has been named in the Wales RBS Six Nations squad.

Prosser, Eves and Griffiths look up to former Colston’s pupils Olly Barkley, Duncan Bell, Lee Mears and Tom Varndell who have gained full England caps.

Barkley and Varndell and another Old Colstonian Alex Brown have been chosen by England coach Andy Robinson, the former Colston’s Director of Sport, in his Six Nations training squad. Duncan Bell is in the England A squad.
