The most successful individual candidates were George Edwards and Jay Olpherts-Forrester with 11 A*s each, followed closely by Thomas Appleby and Clare Shere who both gained 10 A*s and one A.

Thomas is just one year behind his brother Jonathan who in 2008 gained 11 GCSE A*s at Colston’s and is now moving into the Upper Sixth.

Two other highly successful GCSE candidates are two years behind their high achieving brothers at Colston’s.

A week ago Bhavik Bhadresa and Will Mardle helped set the A-level standard with four A grades. Today, at GCSE, Bhavik’s sister Meera heard that she has gained nine A*s and two As, and Will’s brother Peter has nine A*s, one A and one B.

It runs in the family at Colston’s – especially for Peter Mardle (left), Meera Bhadresa and Thomas Appleby. Last week Peter’s brother Will and Meera’s brother Bhavik celebrated four A grades at A-level, and a year ago Thomas’s brother Jonathan gained 11 A*s at GCSE. This trio have now responded strongly with their own GCSE results - Peter with nine A*s, one A and one B, Meera with nine A*s and two As, and Thomas with 10 A*s and one A.

Will and Peter’s sister Charlotte has been following results with interest. She left Colston’s with three A-levels in 2007 and is now reading Chemistry at Southampton University.

Colston’s Headmaster Peter Fraser said: “I am delighted that our pupils have matched last year’s achievements. In fact our GCSE results have been running at this level for three years now.

Annie Krawiec, Becky Greaves and GabriellaTallo share the good news with Headmaster Peter Fraser

“This level of consistency does not happen by accident. It is the result of a joint commitment by pupils, teachers and parents working in partnership.

“Every grade represents a genuine personal achievement, and in celebrating the success of our Year 11 pupils, staff would join me in wishing them good fortune at the start of their Sixth Form studies.”
