The under 15 girls' cricket team won the county competition for the seventh time in a row at the UWE sports centre. Against teams from around the county the indoor cricket squad of years 9 and 10, won their group and the final match through good team work and some impressive individual skills.
Fielding first against Rednock School in the first of two group matches the team kept the run rate low with tight bowling and good fielding: Megan Foreman making 3 run outs. The whole team were finally dismissed for 21 all out. An impressive batting start, as the first three batters retired (getting past 20) Hannah Cockram, Zoe Gould and Emily Wolfe (who hit 3 sixes). The team finished with 82 for 3 for a great first start.
The second group match went equally well against Wyedean School as Hannah took 4 wickets and Zoe Gould took 3 wickets with all catches being held. Wyedean ended their innings on 13 all out; unable to make proper contact with the ball. Batting for the Colston’s team went equally well as the first match as the first three batters continued to hit boundaries; Emily striking another 3 sixes although Megan Diamond went one better and hit 4! The final total was 98 for 3.
After a long rest the final opposition was tougher competition. Newent School put Colston’s into bat. This time our batters started nervously and ended the first over with two run outs. However, the team rallied and through Hannah and particularly Amber Peters finished on a respectable 63 for 6. Unfortunately the nerves did not leave the side as a number of unforced fielding mistakes gave a number of runs away. However, the bowlers gave good tight performances, particularly Megan Long taking a double wicket maiden. Finally, Newent finished on 44 for 5
The team now move forward to the regional final at Exeter.
