King's House Concert

King's House provided a varied and entertaining evening of music on Monday 9th March 2009 which would have been a credit as a school concert.

The evening started with a composition"Mrs. Currie’s King’s House" an adaptation of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the King's House Concert Band with the following line-up: Matthew Hughes (drums); Steven Ray (guitar); Gareth Campbell (piano); Max Nethercott (trumpet); Hannah Owen (trumpet) and King's House tutor Mr. Gwilliam (guitar and vocals).

Zoe Gould & Summer Artman (vocals) with Emily Baynes (Flute) performed Chasing Pavements by Adele followed by two more vocals from Emma Fredericks Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield and Tim McNeil Electricity from Billy Elliot.

Steven Ray (Electric Guitar) changed the mood with his solo from ‘Surfing With the Alien’ by Joe Satriani.

Charlotte Atterton sang Run by Snow Patrol and then there were three intrumental pieces by Hannah Owen (trumpet) Harlem Nocturne, Isabel Marsh (violin) Rhumba and Zoe Gould (violin) Old Joe Clark.

Max Nethercott (trumpet) Flamenco, Zoe Shipley (flute) Mazurka, Tom Pieczora (piano) 1st Movement from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in F minor and Tom Dursley (trumpet) Adams Family completed the solo performances.

Adam Laver (drums), Steven Ray (guitar), Gareth Campbell (synth) and Mr. Gwilliam (mandolin and vocals) gave a very professional performance of Losing My Religion by R.E.M.

Each of the concert pieces was professionally introduced by the King's House prefects.

At the end of the concert Mrs Denise Currie, Head of King's House, congratulated everyone on their fantastic performances, thanked the large audience for their generous support, and gave particular praise to the huge contribution that Gareth Campbell had made, by supporting and performing in so many pieces and giving up a lot of his spare time to rehearse with the performers, and to Mr Jonathan Gwilliam on his enormous amount of work in enthusing the participants and putting the concert together.
