Girls squeeze into national hockey finals on penalties

Girls from Colston’s Lower School have squeezed into national hockey finals at the first attempt.

A team from Years 5 and 6 entered the IAPS national prep schools championship for the first time.

The seven-a-side event, played on half pitches, began with regional finals for 15 schools at Leweston School, Sherborne in Dorset.

Colston’s were knocked out at the semi-final stage, but won their third place play-off in dramatic style. Because the scores were level at the end of normal time and extra time, it went to penalties.

Goalkeeper Summer Artman made the crucial save and Isabella Joy kept her nerve to score the decisive goal which enabled the team to receive medals for coming third and take their place in next week’s national finals at Hatfield (Herts).
