Lower School Hockey Tour to Edinburgh

On Thursday 8th October we arrived at school with our bags packed and feeling excited. We left for Birmingham airport after lunch; this was the start of our tour. We were all nervous but looking forward to it. The flight was short and we soon arrived in Edinburgh. It was quite late so we checked into our hotel for an early night.

The next day we visited the Museum of Childhood. This was interesting but I couldn’t wait to play hockey! We played two teams in the afternoon, Cargilfield Prep and later St George’s School. We lost the first game 2 – 1. It was a close game and we worked hard. I scored the goal! Then we played two more games against St George’s. The first we drew 0 – 0 and the second game, against the B team, we won 3 – 0. We then went back to the hotel for some food and we were all exhausted and went to bed.

On Saturday we had our last game against Strathallan School. It was a good game which eventually we lost 4 – 0. They were a big, strong team. We had lunch at the school before heading back to the hotel. We then went to Edinburgh to do some souvenir shopping. After this we went on a ghost walk which was fun and we screamed a lot, this was the highlight of the tour! (Private joke: We didn’t know there were so many ‘Gwens’ in the audience!)

The next day we flew home and arrived back at school at 7.00 p.m., all exhausted and happy.

This was my last hockey tour with the Lower School and I would like to thank Miss Hawkings and Mr Watts for taking me on the trip and for a fantastic time.

As captain I would like to say well done to all the players of Colston’s under 11 hockey team.
