OLD COLSTONIANS

Old Boys are fortunate to beat the weather

Two teams of Old Colstonians were very fortunate to get in a full afternoon of cricket on Friday 29th June in what has been the worst season for cricket in living memory.

The Peter Fraser XI won the toss, captained by former Head of School and 1st XI captain Matthew Thatcher and made a fast start with Charlie Foley racing onto 26 before being bowled by Alex Haynes.

Thatcher made a watchful 17 before falling to Joe Tolman with an excellent catch on the boundary by Michael Ball. Jon Roper then spear headed the innings with 90 not out supported by useful contributions from George Perry and Alex King-Sorrell. The innings closed on 213 for 7 from 40 overs. Russ Baker was the pick of the Martin Tayler XI’s bowlers taking 3 for 50.

The Martin Tayler XI started slowing losing Baker for 7 and Ball for a duck before an 82 run partnership between Simon Rendell and Joe Tolman rebuilt the innings. Tolman contributed 50 before falling to Charlie Folet and Rendall scored 26 before being bowled by Roper.

Craig Pullen’s duck contributed little to the chase but some robust hitting from Oliver Montogomery and the evergreen Rich Pandya (28 and 62 respectively) got the MPBT XI within 6 but came up a little short. AJ Potiwal took an excellent five wickets for the Headmaster’s XI. I am sure Mr Fraser was delighted to have won.

This day was enjoyed by all and it bodes well for future Old Colstonian cricket
