They do things by the book at Colston’s School, especially when it comes to fundraising and community support.

Chris Banting, Community Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent, read the situation correctly when he dropped in to collect a cheque for £1503. It was raised during a week’s Readathon when pupils in Years 7 and 8 were sponsored to read chapters or complete books.

The money will be split 50-50 between CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, and The Roald Dahl Foundation.

Colston’s Director of English Dr Julie Tovey said: “We are grateful to Chris for coming in and explaining so powerfully how families cope with leukaemia.

“Our pupils need little encouragement to read at the best of times, but the Readathon is such a fun way of sharing their enjoyment of books with their sponsors. To top £1500 was a great result.”
