The Ten Tors Challenge 2006

The Ten Tors Challenge took place at Dartmoor during the weekend 13-14 May 2006. Colston’s CCF entered teams in the 35/45/55 Mile event.

The 35 and 45 mile teams were successful in completing the challenge in the fastest recorded times since Colston’s has entered the Challenge. The 55 Team made it to the 10th Tour but an injury forced them to retire.

Ten Tors Training summary from Will Mardle

02-05-2006

With the Ten Tors competition less that a fortnight away, training is now complete, but the annual Easter Camp to Okehampton still lives firm in my memory. In the first week of the Easter holidays, around 24 pupils, including myself, departed for 6 days of uninterrupted training. The aim of the week was to select and train the three teams for the event which are made up of 6 team members and one reserve. The three categories for the challenge are 35 miles, 45 miles and 55 miles, depending on the age of the entrant.
The week began with an introductory walk for the 35 mile team but it was straight in the deep end for the more experienced, older teams. The walks then became progressively longer but the weather was excellent throughout, particularly on the final two days when most of the teams camped out on one of the tors. A rude awakening came at 5am, before a brisk, nippy walk back to camp.
After returning home on the first Thursday of the holidays and having a long earned rest, the first weekend back brought the final training weekend. The weather again was excellent and we all had an excellent time despite the cramp and the blisters! All the training is now complete and with not long to go, just find me the foot spa!
