Colston’s School continues to build on its GCSE success, with 99 per cent of this year’s candidates gaining five or more A*-C grades.

Headmaster Peter Fraser said: “This key measure has not been below 97 per cent at Colston’s since 2007, and 99 per cent is a new record. It is a superb achievement by all our 94 Year 11 candidates.
“In considering such statistics, as all schools and observers must do, it is all too easy to forget that these results actually represent 94 individual success stories. I want to pay tribute to all the boys and girls concerned as we are very proud of them.”

This year the percentage pass rate of A*-C grades for all candidates was a record 97.3 per cent. The equivalent measure for A*-A grades is 50.1 per cent, in line with last year.
Another Colston’s record in 2010 is the average number of passes at A*-C for each candidate – now up to 9.8 subjects per pupil.

This year’s leading achiever is Philip Box with 10 A*s and 1 A, narrowly ahead of Samuel Crew with 9 A*s and 2 As. Three candidates, Fi Morris, Hannah Hughes and Emma Tamlyn, gained 8 A*s and 3 As.

Both Thomas Boot and Ben Moore also gained 8 A*s, together with 2 As and 1 B.
The subjects with the highest percentage levels of A*-A grades were Religious Studies (75% of candidates gaining A*-A), History and Drama (both 74%), English Literature (66%), Mathematics (65%), Art & Design (61%), Geography (58%) and Chemistry (55%).

Results were impressive in two Short Course subjects offered. Grades A* or A were gained by 53 of 65 candidates (80%) in Religious Studies and by 21 of 29 candidates (72%) in Citizenship.
